Retrofit Foundation Dryer Vent for Existing Block Walls

The EZ Vent 15.88" x 8" retrofit foundation dryer vent assembly is made for remodeling on an existing block foundation. It lets you vent a dryer through the foundation without core drilling a round hole through concrete. If you have a 16" x 8" opening, this retrofit dryer vent slips right in.

Works With the Opening You Already Have

This retrofit foundation dryer vent fits a standard 16" x 8" block opening, whether it comes from:

  • A missing block in the foundation wall
  • Knocking out a block to create a new dryer vent location
  • Removing an old foundation air vent and replacing it with a dryer vent

At 15.88" wide, the vent plate easily slips into a 16" opening.

How to Install a Retrofit Foundation Dryer Vent

  1. Prepare the opening. Clear a 16" x 8" block opening and remove any loose mortar or debris.
  2. Slide the vent in. The 15.88" x 8" plate slips into the opening.
  3. Secure it. Use mortar for a masonry-matched finish, or silicone caulk for a faster install.
  4. Connect the duct from the dryer to the vent.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace a foundation air vent with a dryer vent?

Yes. Most foundation air vents fill a 16" x 8" block opening, the size this retrofit dryer vent is made for.

Do I need to core drill through the block?

No. This retrofit vent uses an existing 16" x 8" opening instead of a round hole bored through concrete.

Should I use mortar or silicone caulk?

Either works. Mortar gives a masonry-matched finish; silicone caulk is quicker for DIY installs.

Why doesn't the retro fit have a top lip?

The top lip on our new construction vent is for setting it during foundation work. The retrofit vent has no lip so it slips into an existing opening.

Will this work on a poured concrete foundation?

It’s designed for existing block foundations. For poured walls in new construction, use our 16" x 8" Foundation Dryer Vent Assembly.
